Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t I visit your workshop with my watch repair?

We cannot under any circumstances accept any visitors to our workshop.   The main reason for this is security and insurance purposes.   We wouldn’t want to compromise our staff or our customer’s watch repairs by allowing the general public in our specialist workshop.   All our work is sent to our workshop using the Royal Mail’s “Special delivery” service.

How do I know when my watch needs a service?

If your watch is mechanical or automatic, it may just stop or the time keeping may run slow or erratically.  If it has been dropped or badly knocked this can have a damaging effect on the movement, thus needing a service.  If your watch is battery/quartz operated it may run slow giving poor time keeping or it may have stopped indicating a service.  Every watch should be serviced every three or four years to ensure optimum time keeping, to ensure water resistance and avoid high servicing costs from missed or long periods without a service.

How much does an estimate cost?

We do not charge for our estimates at Prestige Time Services.

How much will a service cost?

With hundreds of different brands and styles of watches prices do vary a little.   If you fill out our enquiry form on theContact Us page or give us a call we will be happy to give you a competitive price.

Will my watch be safe if I post it to Prestige Time Services?

Yes, we recommend that you send your watch by special delivery it is fully insured and guaranteed.   We don’t use a PO Box so all our post is delivered to our workshop which is fully insured by TH Marsh.

What is a reseal?

A reseal is when we ultrasonically clean the case to remove any dirt from around the case and change any worn or perished gaskets.   We then pressure test the case to ensure it is resealed to manufacturer’s specifications.   We carry out a reseal when a watch has a service or a battery and reseal.

I have had a battery fitted elsewhere and it keeps stopping can you help?

Yes we can. If your watch keeps stopping after a battery has been fitted it generally indicates it needs a service.

Can my watch be polished?

cious metals like gold can be valeted.   Most customers have their watch valeted when it is in for a service, but they can be valeted at any time to keep them looking new.
